History Repeating Itself? Time To Wake Up!

I don’t even know where to begin with this because writing about it is just as disturbing as reading about it.

I read an article entitled “Black Man Found Hanging from a Tree in Jersey City, New Jersey”. I had to read that title three times before opening the article. On the morning of August 6, 2013, a woman was walking “just outside the park,” saw the man and immediately reported the incident. The spokesman for the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said that “foul play is not suspected and that there were no visible signs of trauma or assault.” However, another woman who claims to have called 911 explains her observations and contradicts what the spokesman said because to her it didn’t appear to be suicide because his hands were tied behind his back.

Where do I begin with processing that? So many questions come to mind! Am I supposed to believe that there was no foul play involved? Where are the 911 tapes? Where is the autopsy report and what does the Medical Examiner conclude?

Some people may be asking why it wasn’t covered in mainstream media. Let’s be real — things like this do not make the front page of newspapers or top stories on the news. People miss so many important stories such as this for example because they are focused on “filler” stories (as I call them). It’s time for us to wake up! Examples of such stories include what’s going on with the San Diego mayor and his sexual harassment claims, Justin Bieber playing a guitar naked in front of his grandmother, Anthony Wiener’s buffoonery, and the list goes on. But are we still upset about the George Zimmerman verdict? Are we still upset (or even aware) that the Supreme Court invalidated a key part of the Voting Rights Act? Are we aware that there are so many racially motivated crimes that are not reported on CNN or even our local news? Are we aware of the force feeding of the inmates at Guantanamo Bay? Are we aware of what is going on overseas (especially Egypt)? Some folks are, a lot aren’t.

With all of these incidents dealing with how the police handle various cases that results in a miscarriage of justice overall, are we really supposed to have faith in our police departments and judicial system that justice is going to be served in a case like this?

Lastly, if you’re one who believes that racism does not exist anymore because we have a Black President, you are SADLY mistaken. Hatred breeds hatred and those thoughts and beliefs are passed down from generation to generation.

Sadly, though, rather than taking action by participating in signing petitions and marches (Check your city, there may be a march in honor of the March on Washington Anniversary) , or even embracing the youth and our respective communities, many people are focused on the filler stories, Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, that Kendrick Lamar verse, the next pair of Jordans that are supposed to come out, etc. We have got to do better.

I need to stop writing now, I’m too upset, smh. Deuces. Check out the articles below regarding this incident.
